Bold but Cheerful!

After painting Austin's room, I felt inspired. I decided to finally be brave and paint my kitchen red. I've been wanting to do this for a year but kept putting it off. I recruited Aaron to help me and he turned out to be a life saver. Normally he refuses to pick up a paint brush but this time he helped me tape everything off and did all the brushing along the edges for me (not only once but for all three coats of paint we had to apply). He also did most of the cleanup and all of the touch up. To top it all off, he didn't even complain about it. I can't even describe how happy this made me. After the painting was done, we decided to buy a kitchen valance and matching curtains for the dining room. Miracle of miracles, Aaron still didn't complain when it came to hanging them! Hanging curtains is second on his list of things he hates to do. Second to painting, which holds the number one slot.
To me, paint and curtains says, "We're home" and makes me feel settled. The more I make this house a "home" the happier I will be to stay here.
All in all, Aaron and I had a lot of fun doing this project together and we are pretty happy with how it turned out. We are looking forward to more "home" projects in the future, although I don't think I'll ask Aaron to help with more painting any time soon. That would be pressing my luck!

Kasey! Your home is gorgeous!!! I love the red. And I'm so proud of Aaron for helping you. What a good husband.

Okay, questions:

1) what do you wash your wood floor with?
2) is that glass on top of your dining room table? If so, is it easy to keep clean? Does it get lots of fingerprints, etc on it? I'm thinking about getting a glass top for our table, but just don't know if it will always look smeared.
3) Where did you get the curtain and valance?

1)Our floor is a laminate and we just mop it with a little ammonia cleaner mixed with water. We dry it with towels as we go so we don't get water spots and the water's not just sitting on the wood.

2)Yep, we have glass on the table and yes, fingerprints and smears are a problem. It's really a toss up. I figure I can either deal with scratches, dents and heat marks on my new table or wipe it a hundred times a day. Neither one is very appealing.

3) I found the cutains at JcPenny. They have them at Bed Bath and Beyond too but they are more expensive. It's hard to tell in the picture but they are green with a gold and red pattern. I really like them.

I LOVE IT!!! The red looks great! How did you get it to look so perfect? When we attempted red as an accent wall in our living room, it was streaky and blotchy and didn't cover well;that was besides the fact that paired with our blue carpet and white trim, the back area of our living room resembeled the American flag! Needless to say, the red was painted over with the taupe that the rest of the room was painted in!
Your house definitly looks comfy cozy! Amazing what we can sucker our husbands into! :) Good Job! And kudos to Aaron!

Janet, first we painted a coat of primer which I heard you HAVE to do when you are going to use red. Then we painted the first coat which was very streaky and blotchy. Luckily the next coat covered very evenly.
