Got Corn?

Late this morning my friend Angie called and said, "Hi! Do you want to come over and do corn?" The city girl in me struggled to think of what exactly we would DO to corn. Unable to come up with anything, I had to ask. Early this morning Angie and Kelly, another friend of mine, had gone to a nearby cornfield and picked a ton of corn. They were now getting ready to shuck it, blanch it (boil it for 5 min), cool it in cold water, cut the kernels from the cob and bag it up in Ziploc bags to be frozen and used in the coming year. Of course I wanted to DO corn! One more lesson to learn about country life. For the next 4 hours we all worked as a team over the corn and had a ton of fun doing it. Our kids all shucked themselves silly, then had fun feeding the husks and stripped corn cobs to Angie's cows and pigs. Angie sent me home with not only a new skill but enough fresh corn to last us a year.

Wow! That is so cool. You're making country life sound so fun Kasey! I LOVE corn on the cob and you're so lucky you get to have it all year round! One more incentive to make it up there sometime soon.

How fun! Brings back memories of my childhood in South Carolina "doing" corn and beans with my great grandma!
